Call for entries 2015 Clarence Prize for Excellence in Furniture Design

Council has called for entries in the 5th biennial Clarence Prize for Excellence in Furniture Design.

Council has called for entries in the 5th biennial Clarence Prize for Excellence in Furniture Design. The prize celebrates accessible and functional furniture design. It is now finding its niche within Australia’s art community as a high profile prize that offers a total prize pool of $23,000. The Prize is open to all Australian Furniture Designers. The winner of the major award will receive $20,000 to acquire their work into the City of Clarence Art Collection. Two smaller $1,500 non-acquisitive awards will be awarded for a highly commended work and to an emerging artist.

This year the guest judges for the Clarence Prize are Rye Dunsmuir, General Manager of the Design Centre in Launceston, past winner and acclaimed furniture designer Laura McCusker, and Raymond Scott, the Director of Workshopped, which is an exhibitor, manufacturer and retailer of Australian and New Zealand design products in Sydney.

Past winners of the Clarence Prize have been local artists Laura McCusker, Sally Brown, Simon Ancher and Queensland artist Fukutoshi Ueno.

Entries close on Friday, 17 April and the prize winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on Thursday, 13 August.
