All that jazz at Clarence with festival just around the corner

The Clarence Jazz Festival returns from 21 - 28 February releasing a string of sweet music upon the coastal parks of the Eastern Shore.

Twilight concerts will be held at South Arm, Montagu Bay and Lindisfarne with other performances on the Bellerive Boardwalk and the lawns of Rosny Farm.

Festival Ambassador Paul Williamson, who has toured with Dire Straits and Paul Kelly and ‘blown more reeds than the ocean breeze’, will entice the crowd into the Jazz Lounge in Rosny Barn where the mercury rises and the tunes start to bop a little harder.

The Bellerive Boardwalk swings, sambas and sashays through the whole weekend starting on Friday night focusing on what the younger generation are doing with jazz, including some hot new blood.

“Every year the Clarence Jazz Festival provides scholarships to young talented students on the rise,” said Festival Convenor, Alderman Heather Chong.

“This year we’re proud to present on the microphone Aleksander Folvig, and on saxophone, Felix Grant, in their debut performance together alongside former recipients and shining new lights in the jazz medium.”

“We’re also welcoming a band with a breadth of experience from the back streets of Zagreb to the bazaars of Istanbul. Arabesk, our festival special guests weave together influences from Africa, Latin America and Arabia into some soul jazz at The Barn.”

Clarence Jazz Festival is not just a festival for aficionados. It offers something for everyone.

There are special activities on the Bellerive Boardwalk for kids and fine food as well as local drinks from Pagan Cider, Captain Bligh and Bream Creek Wines. People can also take a picnic and sit back and enjoy the sounds.  The vigorous at heart can have a go at swing dancing with the Lindy Mob Swing Dancers or shake off the cobwebs with an afternoon Jazzercise session.

The Clarence Jazz Festival is on from 21 – 28 February 2016 at various venues on the Eastern Shore.
