Another component of the Kangaroo Bay waterfront redevelopment is about to begin, with Clarence City Council approving a new recreational sporting facility.

The first-class recreational facility will allow Rosny to host more sporting events and provide a home for the Clarence District Cricket Club (CDCC), in a building that will incorporate public toilets, sport club change rooms, curator facilities and a clubrooms pavilion.

The facility will include change rooms, public toilets, storage areas, a kiosk, a function room with seated accommodation for up to 150 people with access to an external deck, scorers’ rooms and offices.

CDCC will lease the first floor of the building as its Clubrooms, and the lower floor change rooms can be hired with the oval by other sporting groups when not in use by either junior soccer during the winter season or by the CDCC during the summer season.

The facility will be accessible via Bastick Street, and an additional 26 car parks will service the new facility and provide additional daytime spaces for the adjoining Rosny College.

Clarence Mayor Alderman Doug Chipman said the development is a component of the Kangaroo Bay Master Plan, designed to create a vibrant waterfront hub for both residents and visitors that will boost the local community and economy.

"These new facilities are within walking distance of the nearby Bellerive Village business precinct, the world-class facilities of Bellerive Oval and the Rosny CBD," Mayor Chipman said.

"The development provides the community with greater access to sporting enjoyment, at one of the most attractive harbour-side locations in Tasmania."

Works are expected to begin in November 2015.
