Clarence City Council has agreed to undertake a number of modifications to its Draft Clarence Interim Planning Scheme 2014, as directed by the Minister of Planning, Peter Gutwein MP. Once these modifications have been made, the Council will submit the amended Scheme to the Minister for declaration.

The City of Clarence has been participating with the State Government and 11 other southern Councils to develop co-ordinated, consistent and contemporary planning schemes.

The Minister required changes ranging from minor administrative modifications through to significant changes. Some of the major changes include;

  • the removal of all Planning controls from the Scheme that are associated with the Commonwealth land containing the Hobart International Airport, as proposed by Council,
  • rejection of the proposed Lauderdale rezoning to General Residential with the land to be shown as the Rural Living zone,
  • inclusion of the proposed Glebe Hill commercial rezoning and associated Specific Area Plan, and
  • in order to maintain consistency across the southern region, the Minister rejected the inclusion of Council’s local subdivision controls in the Significant Agriculture zone meaning that no subdivision will be allowed.

At the same meeting, Council also agreed that subject to the allocation of additional funds in the 2015-2016 budget, Council will commence a review of the Lauderdale Structure Plan.

The Structure Plan will include the necessary planning and infrastructure studies to support an amendment to the Southern Regional Land Use Strategy and the rezoning of land at Lauderdale to Residential as initially proposed by Council under the Draft Clarence Interim Planning Scheme.

A revised Structure Plan will also make provision for the imposition of headwork’s charges in regard to key strategic infrastructure required in that area.
