School Immunisation

School immunisation programs help protect young people in Tasmania contributing to the protection of all Tasmanians.  The program is easily accessible and currently free for Grade 7 students only.

Information and consent form/s are distributed to students through their school at the beginning of each school year.  Parents are requested to read the information, sign the consent form and return it to the school by the due date.

If you have returned the relevant forms to the school and your child is absent on the day vaccination is done, a letter will be sent to the parent/guardian inviting them to attend an immunisation clinic or visit your GP.

Please note if catch-up vaccines are required outside of the recommended schedule, please contact Council for further information.

Further information can be found at: http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/peh/immunisation/school_based_immunisation_program

Other vaccines

Diphtheria, Tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) is not on the schedule but is recommended and available for people who are at risk or caring for a person who is at risk e.g. new born babies under 6 months of age.  Vaccine cost is $45. It is currently free for pregnant women and given in the third trimester (preferably between 28 -32 weeks).

Please note, we do not offer travel vaccines.

Clarence City Council only holds records for immunisations provided by the Clarence City Council. To obtain records of immunisations given by other providers (GP, other Councils) you will need to contact them directly. For all children born after 1996 up until the child is of age 7, immunisation records are available from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809 or search www.medicare.gov.au.
